Much of our stress comes from less dramatic everyday responsibilities. Obligations and pressures which are both physical and mental are not always obvious to us. In response to these daily strains your body automatically increases blood pressure, heart rate, respiration, metabolism, and blood flow to your muscles. This response is intended to help your body react quickly and effectively to a high-pressure situation.

Most of us think that the only thing we have to do is to find a way to prevent our professional skills from getting rusty but what about using this break to question, what am I good at? what a job am I doing? does it make me happy?... I know it sounds SCARY!! But let’s face it, your life will be far more complicated with children, so let’s be serious, can you imagine the frustration of being working just for money? or being doing something that does not make you feel like you are changing the world for better? what about spending most of your time with toxic people at the office? And these are just a few of the scary things that we can discover while being honest with ourselves.

Be honest with yourself about what actually matters to you today. Not what you think you’ll care about it 10 years. Not what your parents think you should care about. What makes your life worth living today? For example, how would you rank: time with friends/family, time for exercise, impactful work, sleep, eating well, creativity, autonomy, geography (where you live). What else should be on this list for you?

We demonstrate the confidence and belief we have in ourselves in a number of ways; our behaviour, our mood and even how we carry ourselves. It’s common for individuals who lack self-belief and self-confidence to find certain areas of their life affected. Relationships can break down, careers can stale, lifestyle can become unbalanced and a positive state of mind can be undermined unless some action is taken to improve these qualities.

Most people understand that few people are born leaders. Most people develop leadership skill one step at a time.As you work at developing your leadership skill, some simple processes can speed you to your goal. Soon you will feel confident in your leadership role. You will know how to motivate, communicate, build teams, and help them focus on and achieve their goals. When you take it step-by-step you’ll see how easy it is to change. Soon you will find that developing leadership skill comes almost naturally. The process becomes part of your work week and the skills become part of who you are.

According to a 2013 survey by Stanford Graduate School of Business professors, 51 percent of senior executives reported they ``receive coaching or leadership advice from outside consultants or coaches.`` Over two-thirds (68 percent) of those senior executives reported that getting outside help was their own idea. These executives realized they needed continuous improvement to compete for the shrinking number of jobs up an organizational pyramid. They likely viewed outside consulting and coaching as a competitive advantage.Senior executives: are you in the 51% of your peer group that is getting leadership advice from outside coaching and consulting, or are you in the 49% that is not?
